House provides budget proposals, passes HB2348

Earlier this week, the House Budget Committee announced their changes to the governor’s proposed budget for higher education. The House proposal would restore $38 million to higher education's core budget - $17.2 million would go to the UM 欧美口爆视频 core budget. This is a 4.2 percent increase from the governor’s proposal. Additionally, Budget Chairman Fitzpatrick has offered all public universities a deal: if they do not raise tuition this year, he will put an additional $30 million into the overall core budget. In total, $68 million would be going to restore higher education’s core budget and would erase the governor’s proposed cuts to higher education.

The House Committee on Higher Education passed , which would change the cap on tuition charged at public institutions of higher education, with a 7-1 vote,  This version includes a provision that would allow public institutions of higher education the ability to charge above CPI +10 percent if the governor should withhold state funding during the immediate preceding fiscal year. The bill moves to the perfection calendar where it will wait to be heard on the floor for debate.
