COLUMBIA, Mo. – The following statements were issued today by UM Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ President Mun Choi and MU Chancellor-Designate Alexander Cartwright:

President Choi: I want to thank Governor Eric Greitens for his strong support of public higher education.  I deeply appreciate his commitment to excellence in student access and outcomes, research breakthroughs and engaged service.  Together with Dr. Alexander Cartwright and the chancellors of all of our UM Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ campuses, we’ll make the critical decisions to become more efficient, be accountable for our actions and bring value to the citizens of Missouri and beyond.  We are entering a truly exciting period of transformation at the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ of Missouri Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ and I’m very pleased to work with our stakeholders to fulfill the important mission of public higher education.

Chancellor-Designate Cartwright: As a non-traditional student who worked through the educational ranks, I understand how crucial it is to maintain affordability and access to the education offered at the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ of Missouri. I know firsthand how truly transformative public higher education can be, no matter your socioeconomic background. Dr. Choi and I share the common goal of building a student-centric university that puts the needs of students first, and we thank Gov. Greitens for his continuing commitment to higher education.

Mizzou already is a vibrant economic driver for the state of Missouri, yet there are efficiencies and bold moves we can take to position the Å·ÃÀ¿Ú±¬ÊÓƵ of Missouri as a leader in education, research, service and economic development while maintaining affordability for students. I look forward to working with Gov. Greitens as well as our state and federal legislators as we reimagine the state’s flagship, land-grant university.
